The Rubber Band Man

January 28, 2010

The rubber band man is the best way I can describe how I’m feeling at this very moment. Not my whole body but my legs feel like they’re made of rubber bands. Oh you know the feeling….that feeling in your legs when you walk ALL day long at the mall during the holiday’s or hiking up a large hill. That feeling you get when you ride a bicycle for too long when your not used to it. Yeah, that’s the feeling I’m talking about, rubber band legs.

My new year resolution for 2010 was to lose weight and get healthier. How original right? I am the heaviest I have EVER been and I’m just not as happy as I want to with my appearance. In other words, my fat ass needs some work. SOOOOOOOO…..in keeping to the promise I made to myself for 2010, I purchased this little gem to help me in this endeavor.

Isn’t she a beauty? She is the Weslo Pursuit G 2.8! Even her name sounds cool dunnit? I picked her up where everyone goes for their health and fitness needs, Wal-Mart. She came well packaged in a cardboard box with “some assembly required”. I put her together in about an hour using only a Phillips screwdriver, pliers and the supplied allen wrench. I was quite happy with how easy she went together. Although she has a cool name/model, I think it’s only right that she receives a name now that she’s been adopted by me. I could use all of your help on this one. Call it a contest if you want. Yeah, the “Name Gary’s Stationary Bike Contest”! ALL names submitted will be considered.

She came with the standard stationary bike things……two legs that adjust for stability, two pedals complete with toe straps, handle bars, adjustable resistance and a terribly uncomfortable seat. One thing she is missing that does not bother me at all is a big ol spinning wheel in the front. My grandfather had a stationary bike when I was a kid with one of the big ol wheels on the front of it. Yeah, sounded like a tank was coming through the house every time someone rode it. LOL

Something she DID come with that I am really digging is this dope electronic console. The console will show you RPM’s, your speed in mph OR KPH, how long you’ve been riding, distance ridden in miles OR kilometers, calories you have burned and even your heart rate. Now how friggin cool is THAT brahs? As if that wasn’t enough, the console also has six pace workouts to choose from! Can it get any better than that? I think not!

I took her for her first ride tonight to break her in. We took a seven mile bike ride together in thirty-two minutes which I didn’t think was too bad for not riding a bike in ten years or more. She seems to be feeling just fine but I’m feeling a lot like the rubber band man. Hopefully with her help, I will get down to a more acceptable weight. 😀

Wish Me Luck!

Gary, (no more Garyboy/Gayboy! I gott get you a new nickname ASAP!)

Can I borrow that? My muffin top just doesn’t seem to be going away. I never used to have a problem with weight at all until I hit my 40’s. Ahhhh the magical number of fat!

I’ve recently been doing sit-ups and working out with 5 lb arm weights. Yeah, still not workin’ but I’ve only started a few days ago. If I had a treadmill or something like that I’d definitely use it.

Now. To name that damn thing. You know Lisa and Jean are gonna have Zingers! Damn I might have to get back to you on this one. Instead of concentrating on work today, I’ll be thinking of a stupid name for your stationary bike! LMAO

PS good riding and good luck.

    • January 28, 2010 10:21 AM

A NEW nickname? oh cool! 😀

Sure, you can borrow it. I will be 40 in June and I’m HOPING to weigh LESS than I did when I graduated high school. I know…..I can’t wait to see what Lisa and Jean are gonna come up with. LOL Work? FORGET WORK! You have more important things to worry about at the moment……like thinking of a name for my new stationary bike. Bwahahahahahahahahahahaaha

It looks like we’re all in the same boat here. I need MOTIVATION!!! I’ll find it one of these days and actually do more than just talk about it.

    GOOD LUCK GARY.

    • January 28, 2010 10:27 AM

I FINALLY found some MOTIVATION! LOL

      Thanks Joy!! 😀

God your writing cracks me the F*CK up! LOL…good luck with the biking! Just be care not to sit with that seat under your arse too long! I can imagine that would make the “boys” quite uncomfortable! I’ll think of some names!! Happy riding! 🙂

    • January 28, 2010 10:29 AM

I must admit that the “boys” are feeling it today. They are not playing well with the seat! 😀

    “Luck!”

I would likely get all the exercise I could handle just getting the thing out of the box. Then I’d use it to hang clothes on.

Way to go Gary! I ride bike 4-5 times a week for 30 minutes. Everyday is different,ex wind strength and direction, stupid walkers on the trail, stupid dogs that chase me.
Now to think of a name for you new little friend! I think you should name it Sally then you can sing “Ride Sally ride” everytime you get on her!

    • January 28, 2010 10:31 AM

That’s great Heather! How is it working for you??

Ohhhhhhhh, I like that Heather!! “Ride Sally ride”…..;-)

cuz I would say something like Cold Ethel!

“the wheel on gary’s bike goes round and round ..round and round…round and round..the wheel on garys’ bike goes round and round all the live long day!”

    • January 28, 2010 2:44 PM

      Cold Ethel? LOL

No it don’t! It doesn’t have a wheel so na na na na boo boo…stick your head in doo doo!

speaking of weight loss…wth? Are we all on the same kick.. I would like to publically announce as of yesterday I have dropped 25 lbs..yes that is right 25 lbs in the last 2 1/2 months. Go ahead and applaud! Erin and I have vowed to eat healthier..drop some pounds..lose some inches and be more active! So far so good..waiting for warm weather so we can start walking.

    • January 28, 2010 2:45 PM

25lbs? Wow, that’s GREAT Lisa! (applauding) So how did you do it? Just watching what you eat?

      Keep up the good work!

      • January 28, 2010 8:51 PM

yep right now we are just watching what we eat. I pulled out the small plates so we are eating smaller portions…got us some of those little snack pack things with crackers and stuff in them for 100 calories for us each to take to work. Drinking a lot of water… ( I drink life water ) …she drinks plain water (ick)! And come spring we will begin our walking plan again.
I have been getting a lot of salad and we throw on some chicken and fat free dressing. Yup that is why Nick is having to write a song about me having to wear a pair of erins jeans till I can get my own SMALLER SIZE !! WOOOPIE! 🙂

    • January 28, 2010 9:55 PM

  13. January 28, 2010 4:19 PM

Well…it sounds to me like you will be spending a lot of time with this “new” woman! She is going to take you on a ride you will never forget! She will make your every dreams come true! She is now……”Gary’s Little Mistress!”
    🙂
    Like it?

    • January 28, 2010 9:56 PM

I think we will be spending a lot of time together, yes. We are planning on spending about an hour together about an hour a day, six days a week. 🙂

      I like it! 😉

  14. January 28, 2010 6:11 PM

Doris. She looks like a Doris.

Now just keep using her and don’t use her as a clothes hanger and that weight will drop off in no time! 🙂

THE BEST WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT IS TO REGULATE YOUR EATING HABITS.
I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT THE MORE YOU EXERCISE THE MORE YOU BECOME HUNGRY AND TEND TO EAT MORE.
TO THE LIGHTER SIDE OF THE THING. IF YOU ARE CONCERNED MORE ABOUT THE ASS THEN RUBBING IT AGAINST A WALL ., LIKE SOME COWS DO, MIGHT WORK THOUGH WITH SOME BRUISES IN THE BARGAIN.

    • January 28, 2010 9:59 PM

Yeah, I have already tried rubbing my ass against a wall but it didn’t seem to work for me. Just made my ass hurt but thanks for the advice LVISS! LOL

  16. January 29, 2010 5:39 PM

Good luck! I’m with ya (heaviest weight EVER). What a SWEET ride. 🙂 Good for you!
