My son Nick recently celebrated his 18th birthday. I have been asking him what he would like for his birthday for quite sometime now and I always received the same answer “I dunno”. Typical teenage answer but yesterday he came to me with his birthday wish. “Dad, I want a tattoo for my birthday” he said. Ever since he was a little boy he has said “I want to get a tattoo like my dad when I grow up”. I always told him after he turned eighteen he could do whatever he wanted and now he is holding me to my word. All I could say was “if that’s what you really want, then I will take you to the place I got mine”. He said that was what he really wanted so I took him to get a tattoo the next day as his birthday present. Nick decided on a tribal arm band on his right arm.

Happy Birthday!

Very nice! It’s tasteful, simple and can be covered up if need be. It sounds like he took a lot of time to decide it’s what he really wanted, which is good! I also want a tattoo for my birthday; I’m just a wee bit older though!

      Hi Sue!

Yes, I explained the importance of getting it somewhere it could be covered up. You would never know I or he had any unless we are without a shirt or wearing a tank top. It’s never too late for a tat. My mom and dad went and got their first when they were in their mid 50′s! What are you thinking of getting?

I have one already that I got with Joy (HA HA HA) when I was 18. While Toby and I were in Hawaii, there was a beautiful flower that came on my plate one night at dinner and I said “THIS IS THE ONE! THIS IS WHAT I WANT!” I’ve been wanting another one for awhile, but never found the perfect “thing” to get. My only regret is that I didn’t get it while there…knew I should have!

Don’t you hate it when you know you should probably do something but you don’t and then regret it later. I hate it when that happens. :-)

Paula has a really cool orchid tattoo on her back!!

IS IT A PERMANENT ONE OR CAN BE CHANGED. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT THESE TATTOOS. I HAVE SEEN PEOPLE FULLY TATTOED ALL OVER THE BODY.

    • August 30, 2009 9:42 PM

Oh it is permanent for sure LVISS. I don’t like tattoos all over the body. YUK!

    Nice choice, congrats Nick!

yep..it’s an original. I told the tat guy to figure something out and he did and it’s perfect for me. He just started drawing and I said ..yeah that’s it…I had no clue what I wanted it to look like until he started drawing it out. It’s simple and means nothing to anybody else but means everything to me!

If it means something to you, that’s all that matters JJ. Especially if it means EVERYTHING to you. I wish I had a talent for art like those tattoo artists do. My son Nick could be a tattoo artist if he wanted too! :-)

Very nice! My mom flipped out when she saw I had gotten one at age 19. You are definitely a lot less uptight about that sort of thing, and that makes you awesome.

I’ve often thought about getting another tattoo, but 1) can’t decide what to tattoo on my body, and 2) where that image (once I decide what it is) should be tattooed. Those are kind of important decisions to make before I go through with another tattoo. God knows I don’t want to have something I will abhor in a decade inked upon my skin…

No, I’m not uptight about tattoos at all. I have two of my own and really like them as long as they are tasteful and not overdone. My wife has one as well.

LOL…..I would say those are a couple of important things decisions to make. LOL Good luck and let me know what you get and where ya get it.

Good to see you around Megan!!
